The Call to Prayer
IBEX students: remember it? It wasn't so bad in Israel (politically correct to call it "Palestine" here in Jordan) because there wasn't a mosque near Yad HaShmonah, so we only heard it when in Jerusalem. However, thanks to the close proximity of our friendly neighborhood mosque here in Amman, I've been getting it five times a day for almost 3 weeks. When I started this post, it was calling Muslims once again to pray towards Mecca, and even my trusty headphones and the Newsboys couldn't drown it out. Supposedly it eventually becomes a part of the background noise if you live here long enough, but so far, no luck for this short-termer...
I'm tempted to be bitter. At times I am. In the States this would never stand, it is infringing on my rights. However, I'm not in the States, and ultimately in the kingdom of God, I have no rights, just a gracious Savior. However, I heard once an excellent suggestion: every time when hearing the call to prayer, to pray for the Muslims who are currently praying to a false god. This obnoxious broadcast is also a regular reminder of these dying souls.
I don't ever want the call to prayer to simply become background noise. Pray with me...
