A little perspective

A couple days ago, I spent the majority of my afternoon hangin' out with Adam. Adam and his family are friends with the Schlegels and the Bolens, families of two of my IBEX professors. Adam is six years old. He's got an older brother Asher, and little brother and sisters Nathan, Sarah, and Anna. Anna's just an infant.

Saturday afternoon, IBEX went to Askelon beach on the Mediterranean Sea and Adam's family, the Bolens, and the Schlagels all came along. We had a blast! Adam sat on my lap on the bus all the way there and back. He showed me his cool spear which he had made out of a broken broom handle. Asher and Adam both tightly held my hands as we waded out into the waves. We built a big sand castle with a moat in the front and a couple of little flags made out of toilet paper.

On the trip back to Yad HaShmonah, we were talking and I had told him that my favorite color was blue. Adam non-chalantly mentioned, "that was my Dad's favorite color," and we moved on in the conversation.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention: Adam's dad died suddenly and unexpectedly just before this semester started.

Finals are not a trial.
