What really matters...

I know this is old news, but Hotchkiss men finally won the Master's Cup! For those of you who don't know, this is a relay race of immense proportions during the Week of Welcome for incoming freshmen and transfer students. Hotchkiss has always taken the Cup extremely seriously, but for the past two years we have lost--last year even to the extent where we were beat by all the other guy and girl dorms and we were disqualified! Needless to say, I drank deeply of the sparkling cider we all partook of out of our new possession... for this year at least! Good times guys...

Winning the Cup was awesome, but consider how much more awesome our God is! The glory of winning this simple relay is incredibly transient in comparison with the eternal riches of heaven. Let us focus on the race that the Word calls us to, mortifying the flesh with its passions and desires in order to be more like Christ and one day begin an eternity of blissful worship at His feet. That is what really matters...

Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that may win.
Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. They then do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable.
Therefore I run in such a way, as not without aim; I box in such a way, as not beating the air;
but I discipline my body and make it my slave, so that, after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified.
--1 Corinthians 9:24-27

Therefore since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,
fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God
--Hebrews 12:1
